Nina Parley tells her “the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told” ( Sita Sings the Blues) through Indian / Indonesian epic “Ramayana” * and it is hilarious. But the best about the movie is not only the story but the outcome as well. It tells artists that they do not need the likes of MPAA or RIAA and affiliated monopoly practices.
The movie, tells the story of Rama and Sita and of course Ravana, which she parallels to her own story of getting dumped through email by her husband. The movie screened recently again in New York and as you can see from below, she has released it under Creative Commons on Youtube. If you are the type, you can also read the Roger Ebert‘s take on the movie.
I liked it, a lot. (double click on the movie to watch a larger version on YouTube).
If you really like the movie, you can get the the DVD from questioncopyright org’s online store. But being a patriot I will get the Ravana Tee because “He’s evil. He’s lusty. He has ten heads*. He’s Ravana and he is Lankan” and make the Ravana who gave me the info about the movie envy.
